President Zelensky meets King Charles after talks in Downing Street to offer more military aid to repel invading Russians

PM Rishi Sunak and Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelenskey

Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky has personally thanked Britain for its “big support” in its war against an invading Russian army.

Mr Zelensky flew into the UK and was met at Stanstead by the Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

The two leaders returned to London for talks.

Speaking at Number 10 Mr Zelensky said:

“Thank you so much Rishi for inviting me and for me great honour to be here in Britain.”

He went on the address both Houses of Parliament in Westminster Hall before having an audience with King Charles at Buckingham Palace.

Mr Sunak pledged extra military support for Ukraine, including – crucially – the training of Ukrainian fighter jet pilots.

This could pave the way for Ukrainian forces to fly sophisticated Nato-standard jets, a key request by Mr Zelensky.

Meanwhile, former Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been given an advance of £2.5 million to speak in America.

Mr Johnson declared in the latest Register of Members’ Financial Interests, published today, that he received £2,488,387 on January 3rd this year.

The payment was “an advance for speaking engagements arranged via the Harry Walker Agency” which is based in New York.

Mr Johnson said that he had consulted the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments (ACOBA) – a jobs watchdog for former ministers – about the arrangement.
