Disgraced glam rock star Gary Glitter will probably die in prison, says former Scotland Yard chief

Re-jailed Gary Glitter will probably spend the rest of his life behind bars, a former chief of Scotland Yard’s Paedophile Unit has said.

Mike Hames said Glitter – real name Paul Gadd – would always pose a danger to children.

He said a return to custody was the right course of action after the recently released Glitter was found trying to access the Dark Web on his mobile.

The Probation Service said the decision followed a breach of his licence conditions.

Mr Hames said:

“As far as Gadd is concerned, he is so dangerous and so fixated on his offending behaviour that he’ll never stop – he’s gone too far.

“He’s arrogant, he’s opinionated.

“He’s someone who’s always going to be a danger to children, quite frankly.”

Glitter, 78, had been released half way through a 16-year sentence.

Mr Hames said:

“[I have] No doubt he’ll serve the next eight years of his sentence.

“He’ll probably die in prison.”
