UK government borrowing was higher than expected in February, according to official figures.

Borrowing – the difference between spending and income from taxes – was £10.7bn last month, the Office for National Statistics said.

The government’s independent forecaster had predicted that borrowing would be £6.5bn for the month.

The latest UK economy figures are the last ahead of Chancellor Rachel Reeves’ Spring Statement next week.
