The blast happened at the Cerredo mine in Degaña, Asturias, some 450km (278 miles) north-west of Madrid around 09:30 local time (08:30 BST).

At least three others were injured, according to local emergency services, and a search is under way for the missing workers. Fire and rescue services have been sent to the scene.
