Porsche vows to continue using a petrol engine to power its iconic 911 car

Porsche will power its best-selling 911 model with a petrol engine for “as long as possible”.

Senior executive Karl Dums said the iconic sports car would be the last to go electric.

Mr Dums told Reuters:

“We will produce the 911 as long as possible with a combustion engine.

Car companies around the world are striving to meet deadlines to switch to electric power.

Among other factors, car makers fear the ubiquitous ripping-roar of a sports’ exhaust will be lost.

Porsche is aiming for 80 per cent of its sales to be battery-powered cars by 2030.

The 911 will continue to feature a combustion engine that burns a synthetic, greener version of petrol.
