Relatives of the Titan sub disaster might be able to sue despite victims signing liability waivers, say legal experts

The families of the five victims lost in the Titan submersible could sue the operator, the maker and companies that supplied parts – legal experts say.

The advice comes despite the five passengers being asked to sign liability waivers before the ill-fated dive.

The Titan imploded as it inched towards the Titanic wreck 12,500 feet under the Atlantic.

Lawyers said relatives could seek damages from any outside parties involved in the Titan’s construction if they were found to be negligent and a cause of the implosion.

They add wrongful death and negligence lawsuits could be filed by families of the victims, who paid $250,000 each to travel 12,500ft below the surface of the Atlantic.

American legal expert Dr Nick Oberheiden, of Federal-lawyer.com, said families could win more than $100million if they sue the operator OceanGate.

It could pursue it as a group claim, which might improve their chances of winning by sharing resources.
