The Conservatives are ahead of Labour in the so-called Blue Wall constituencies – posh seats in the south of England.
It’s the first time Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has nosed ahead of Labour leader Sir Keir Starmer.
A Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey conducted on May 22nd put the Tories on 34 per cent and Labour on 33 per cent across dozens of seats that are likely to be crucial in the next general election.
Mr Sunak’s party gained two percentage points on the previous poll two weeks before, while Labour fell by three points.
The Blue Wall is a belt of 42 affluent seats that have always been regarded as Tory strongholds.
However, over the last few years the 42 have looked vulnerable.
At the 2019 general election, the Tories won all 42 of the Blue Wall seats.
The PM’s net approval rating has also better than Sir Keir’s.
A total of 39 per cent approved of Mr Sunak and 36 per cent disapproved, while 33 per cent approved of Sir Keir and 31 per cent disapproved.
