Climate protester glues hand to podium during Swiss TV debate

A climate activist glued a hand to a podium of a TV host during a public debate on election day in the Swiss city centre of Geneva, evoking jeers and boos.

A man wearing a T shirt that read “Agir Ensemble” or “Let’s Act Together” protested during an interview with a TV presenter, who was chatting to a candidate for the seven-member council of the canton Geneva.

“You are holding a democratic television show hostage,” said Leman-Bleu TV Chief Editor Jeremy Seydoux as he pointed at the activist.

In the video, a worker from Leman Bleu can be seen attempting to remove an activist from the podium before realizing the glue. The worker returns with rubbing-alcohol and the police assist in carrying the protester as the crowd yells “move!”

The climate policies of Switzerland, which were deemed as “insufficient” in a site that monitors government actions on global warming are a hot topic this year, ahead of the referendum on a climate law to be held in June.

Some activists are using bolder methods such as adhering themselves on a road inside an Alpine tunnel. A group of Swiss older women has sued Bern in a landmark European court for its “woefully insufficient” efforts to combat global warming.
