One of the 12 Thai boys dramatically rescued from a flooded cave in 2018 has died in Britain.

Duangpetch Promthep, 17, was the captain of the Wild Boars team isolated in the floodwaters in the cave in his homeland.

The breath-taking 18-day rescue was watched around the world and later spawned a film, documentaries, and books.

Last year Duangpetch won a football scholarship to study at Brooke House College, Leicestershire.

His excitement was palpable as he posted to Instagram at the time:

“Today my dream came true.

“I will focus and do my best.”

Leicestershire police were called to the boarding school on Sunday over concerns about a pupil.

A police spokesperson said:

“The pupil – a 17-year-old boy – was taken to hospital.

“He has since died.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious.”

It is reported in Thailand that Duangpetch had slipped over and banged his head.

He was on a respirator in hospital for two days.
