One in three children claim they learn more from TikTok postings than doing school work, a survey shows.
Nearly 25% of those polled thought TikTok explained their school work better and clearer.
The pupils said they could find the answer to anything on the social media app.
However, 20 per cent assumed what they saw and heard was true.
Children as young as five are consulting the app – despite its minimum entry age being 13.
The subjects most looked at were English, music and mathematics.
Two years ago, TikTok unveiled plans to put more educational video content – made by experts in the subject – onto its site.
Celebrities also post videos – including Countdown presenter Rachel Riley who has a master’s degree in mathematics from the University of Oxford.
Researchers at Oxford Home Schooling surveyed 1,000 pupils in the UK aged between five and 16.
Greg Smith, head of operations, said:
“The popularity of social media is well documented, but our research has highlighted the scale of children using the app for educational purposes.”
